WinX Free DVD to iPhone Ripper is a DVD ripper and format converter. It is also a free solution for ripping DVDs for use on Apple multimedia devices.
Graphically, the application is clearly divided into two sections. The top part of the screen is where you tell the application what DVD to rip and where to get it from. It can read a DVD disc or it can process .IFO files, if you have already ripped the DVD to your hard drive. The bottom part has to do with the actual selection of formats. There are four tabs: to iPhone, to iPod, to Apple TV, and To Music. By selecting one of those, you are telling the application what device to convert to. Most of those devices will read the same file formats. For example, both the iPhone and the iPod read MP4 (H264) files quite well. Within each of those tabs are some encoding parameters. You can change the profile (the preloaded set of encoding configurations), the video resolution, audio quality, and frame rate and quality.
After you have selected an output device, you can start the encoding process. Ripping a movie DVD takes a good hour with an average computer, and the end result will be a single file movie that you can copy to your iPhone via iTunes.
Another use for this app is ripping video to audio. By selecting the To Music tab, you can convert a whole DVD to an audio file. There aren't any options for splitting the file or anything like that, though.
This ripper also allows you to select one or more DVD titles to convert, should you not want to convert the whole movie. You can also select audio tracks and subtitle tracks for your file.
